What can a birth sister do for me?

Prenatal Support

A birth sister will meet with you 3-4 times while you are pregnant. She will help you to create a birth plan that outlines the kind of birth you want to have. She will help you make educated choices, navigate your prenatal care and support any decisions you make.

Having a birth sister by your side reduces pre-term birth and need for NICU admission when the baby is born.

Continuous Labor Support

When you go into labor, your Birth Sister will be with you every step of the way. She will help you to know when it is time to go to the hospital or call the doctor or midwife. She will help you understand what is happening medically so you can make the best decisions for you. She will offer massage, comfort and care to relieve pain. She will listen to you, advocate for you and respect you.

Post Partum Care

A birth sister will help you to breastfeed if that is how you want to feed your baby.  She will not leave your side until you are comfortable after the birth, and she will come to your home after the baby is born to offer support that is unique to your needs and circumstances.
